Course Overview

ICCCouncil’s HOS Training equips CMV drivers, fleet owners, dispatchers, and safety managers with the knowledge required to comply with federal Hours of Service regulations under 49 CFR Part 395. This course covers every core HOS rule — the 11-hour driving limit, the 14-hour duty window, mandatory rest requirements, the 60/70-hour weekly limits, sleeper berth provisions, and ELD logging requirements. You will also learn how to identify and avoid the most common HOS violations that lead to roadside out-of-service orders and costly DOT civil penalties. After completing this course, you will be fully prepared to operate in compliance with FMCSA Hours of Service rules and protect yourself and your organization from enforcement action.

You will learn how driver fatigue is one of the leading contributors to large truck crashes in the United States, and how 49 CFR Part 395 is the primary federal regulatory tool for managing that risk. We cover which drivers and vehicles are subject to HOS rules, the distinction between property-carrying and passenger-carrying driver rules, and the serious consequences — including fines up to $16,000 per violation and out-of-service orders — that follow non-compliance.
